Through Gates of Splendor (Film) Item Info
- Title:
- Through Gates of Splendor (Film)
- Date Created:
- 1961
- Description:
- Film illustrating story of the death of the five missionaries and the life of Elisabeth Elliot and her daughter among the Waorani. After the success of Through Gates of Splendor, several film production companies approached Elliot and others involved about a film treatment of the story. However, the five women were wary about supporting a project that further sensationalized the death of their husbands. Through the "Auca Missionary Foundation," which represented the five women and the Waorani mission project, they helped develop this 1961 film, produced by Sacred Cinema and narrated by Elisabeth Elliot, which included footage from home movies made by Nate Saint and Elisabeth Elliot, as well as photographs from Cornell Capa. Like many Christian films of the 1960s and 1970s, the film was distributed for showings through mission agencies and churches. 35mm film reel, 36 minutes.
