Bell was the secretary-treasurer for the Southern Presbyterian Journal, as well as an executive editor for Christianity Today, which he helped start with his son-in-law, Billy Graham. In the letter, Bell thanks the Howards for sending a copy of Through Gates of Splendor, adding that he plans to purchase several copies for friends.
