Team of Ecuadorian soldiers, Quichua Indians, and missionaries conduct ground search for missionaries by canoe down Curaray River. Original USCARIB Central caption reads: "Ground party personnel, consisting of Ecuadorian soldiers, American missionaries, and friendly Indians, search along the banks of the Curaray River in the upper Amazon basin of Ecuador for the bodies of the five American missionaries murdered by savage Auca Indians. Four of the bodies were subsequently recovered and buried in a common grave beneath the tree house they had constructed alongside the sandy beach where they were murdered."
